Saline (salt water) nasal drops and sprays can be used in children of any age to loosen mucus and help with blocked noses.

For babies, use drops and sprays just before feeds. If they are under two, it is best to lie them down with their head turned to one side. For children over two, have them stand or sit up. If using a spray, make sure it’s sprayed deep inside the nostril.

Be sure to wipe the nozzle clean. To avoid spreading germs, do not share the bottles. As with any treatment, read the instructions carefully, follow dosing guidelines, and speak to your pharmacist if you have any questions.
