There are some practical measures that you can take to help your child if they have glue ear. Cutting out any background noise and attracting your child’s attention before you speak to them will help improve their communication with you, as will talking clearly and more loudly than usual. It is also worth mentioning to your child’s teachers that they have difficulty hearing, and that this might also result in your child being visibly frustrated or upset. Making your home smoke free is also a good idea, as smoking around children with glue ear can aggravate the condition.
